#28: Mum [We Have a Map of the Piano]

My cousin, a talented ballerina was practicing for her Juliard audition. Hours were spent perfecting the tedious dance routine. She would speak of brise, eleve and arabesque - ballet positions. All of this was a foreign language to me, but what spoke volumes was her audition song, We Have a Map of the Piano. It was modern, almost technical and had such an eclectic feel for her dance piece. She had poise and grace, I knew her dance routine coupled with this song would ensure her place at Juliard. Did she make it? Yes, she did. As a celebratory piece and a "thank you" for the support, she sent me the album, Finally We are No One (released in 2002 on the Fat Cat Records label). I still get goosebumps like the first time I saw her dance, every time I put this record on.
